The Group’s IT operations span across regional offices and a global fleet of over 700 vessels, combining global coordination with technical excellence. The Senior Fleet IT Engineer is a senior technical role within the Fleet IT function, responsible for the end-to-end design, deployment, and lifecycle support of ICT infrastructure across managed vessels, including newbuild and existing fleet operations. Based in Athens, the role combines engineering design, project execution, and operational support, ensuring that vessel IT environments are secure, standardized, reliable, and aligned with company and regulatory requirements. The position plays a key role in: Delivering newbuild ICT solutions (e.g. CSOV and complex vessels). Supporting fleet IT operations and upgrades. Driving standardization, cybersecurity compliance, and digital transformation. The role is suited for an experienced IT professional and requires strong hands-on expertise, the ability to operate across shipyards, vessels, and global teams, and the capability to manage ICT systems in demanding maritime environments. Design and implement end-to-end vessel ICT infrastructure, including networks, connectivity, server architecture, and onboard systems, aligned with company standards. Lead and execute the deployment and commissioning of ICT systems during newbuilds, drydockings, and vessel handovers, including shipyard/vessel attendance, system configuration, testing, and final delivery validation. Provide 1st and 2nd level ICT support to vessels remotely and onboard, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and minimal operational disruption. Manage and maintain onboard network infrastructure and connectivity services (i.e. GEO/LEO/L-band satellite terminals, 4G/5G cellular modems etc.), ensuring performance and reliability. Monitor and optimize IT system performance across the fleet, identifying recurring issues and implementing improvements. Manage the lifecycle of onboard ICT hardware , including specification, procurement, installation, upgrades, and decommissioning. Support and maintain onboard software platforms and systems, coordinating with vendors and internal teams for issue resolution and upgrades. Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls and compliance , including vulnerability management, patching, access control, and audit support. Maintain technical documentation, configurations, and reporting , supporting operational transparency and compliance requirements. Participate in and deliver fleet-wide IT projects and standardization initiatives , while coordinating with vendors, shipyards, and internal stakeholders. Requirements Key Skills and Capabilities Technical Skills Experience in ICT infrastructure design and deployment for complex environments. Strong expertise in network engineering . Solid experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and endpoint management. Hands-on experience with maritime connectivity solutions. Knowledge of cybersecurity principles (segmentation, endpoint protection, access control, vulnerability management). Experience in hardware lifecycle management and system standardization. Professional & Operational Skills Strong troubleshooting and incident response capability in constrained and remote environments. Ability to deliver end-to-end ICT projects , including design, deployment, and support. Proficient in documentation, reporting, and technical communication. Ability to work independently onboard vessels and in high-pressure situations. Collaboration & Leadership Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development. Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Effective coordination across multicultural and distributed teams . Professional Experience and Education Formal education: University degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Certifications: Industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA, Microsoft, Fortinet NSE) are highly desirable. Experience: 5 years of IT industry related experience; shipping industry and vessel-support environment experience is a strong plus. Experience with newbuild projects or complex ICT deployments is highly desirable. Languages: Fluent English required, other European language is an asset.
