What is an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and why does my CV need to be optimised for one?+
An ATS is the software employers and recruitment agencies use to filter and rank job applications before a human reads them. If your CV uses tables, text boxes, fancy fonts, images instead of text, or doesn't include the keywords from the job ad, it can be silently rejected or ranked low. An ATS-optimised CV uses a single column, plain headings, standard fonts, and the right keywords — so it parses cleanly and reaches the recruiter.
How does the CertVault ATS CV optimizer work?+
Two tools in one. The Analyser reads your uploaded CV (PDF) and gives you an ATS readiness score from 0 to 100 plus a prioritised fix list (formatting issues, missing keywords, unclear structure). The Generator builds a brand-new ATS-optimised CV from your CertVault profile and your verified credentials — certifications, licences, medicals, visas, work rights, and roles. Both tools accept an optional job description so the AI tailors the output to a specific role.
What file format does the CV need to be in?+
For the Analyser: PDF only. Word .doc and .docx files need to be saved as PDF first. The Generator doesn't require an upload at all — it builds from your CertVault profile and credentials. The generated CV downloads as a Word-compatible .doc that opens cleanly in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, and parses correctly in ATS scanners.
Can I optimize my CV for a specific job ad?+
Yes. Both the Analyser and the Generator accept an optional job description. Paste the role ad into the text box and the AI will score your CV against that specific role — showing you which keywords from the ad you already use (matches) and which ones are missing (gaps). The Generator uses the same job description to tailor the Professional Summary and Skills section of your new CV.
Will the AI invent qualifications I don't have?+
No. The Generator is hard-constrained to only use data that exists in your CertVault profile and credential records. If a section has no source data — for example, if you haven't added any working visas — that section is simply omitted, never filled with placeholders or fabricated details. Honesty is non-negotiable: an inflated CV that gets you to interview only to fall apart on verification is worse than no CV at all.
