How AI scoring works
Last updated: 25 October 2026
1. The CV score
The CV score (shown to employers as “CV backed by documents”) is a number from 0 to 100. It estimates how many of the qualifications in your CV have a matching document uploaded to your CertVault profile.
It does not say whether your certificates are genuine. CertVault does not confirm certificates with the organisations that issued them.
2. How it is worked out
- When you upload or change a document or your CV, we send your CV file and a list of your uploaded documents (each one’s name and issuer) to our AI provider (Anthropic). The document files themselves are not sent, and your medicals and immunisations are left out of the list entirely.
- The AI lists the qualifications your CV claims and says, for each one, whether you have uploaded a matching document. It allows for different names for the same thing (for example White Card and CSCS, or BOSIET and T-BOSIET).
- The number itself is then calculated by a fixed rule, not chosen by the AI: the share of CV qualifications that have a matching document. If nothing is missing, the score is 100.
- If we cannot read a CV (or you have not uploaded one), the score is based on how many documents you have uploaded and cannot go above 75.
- Health claims in your CV (medicals, vaccinations, drug and alcohol tests, fitness-for-work assessments) are ignored. They can neither lower nor raise your score.
- Expired or expiring documents do not lower the score. Expiry is tracked separately.
3. Who sees it
- You see the score and the full breakdown (what matched and what is missing) on your dashboard.
- Employers who can already see your profile (the open worker pool, or employers you work for or are talking to) see the number only, marked “guide only”. They do not see the breakdown.
- The score is not used to rank or filter you in employer search.
- Nothing happens automatically because of the score. Employers decide who to contact or hire; the score is one guide among many.
4. Switching it off
You can switch AI scoring off at any time in Edit My Profile (the “AI CV Completeness Scoring” switch near the bottom). When it is off, no AI check runs on your uploads and employers stop seeing your score straight away, even if an old one is still stored. Uploads and sharing work exactly the same.
5. Challenging your score
If you think your score is wrong:
- First check the breakdown on your dashboard. Most low scores come from a qualification in your CV that has no document uploaded yet, or a document named differently from the CV. Uploading it, or editing the document name, fixes it on the next check.
- If it still looks wrong, use Challenge this score on the CV score card on your dashboard. Tell us what is wrong. A person at CertVault (not the AI) reviews it, can re-run the check, and emails you the outcome within 30 days.
- When you challenge, you can also ask us to hide your score from employers while it is reviewed. You can switch scoring back on whenever you like.
You can also email privacy@certvaultapp.com to object to this processing or ask any question about it.
6. AI worker search
Employers can search for workers by typing what they need in plain English, for example “crane operator with BOSIET in Perth”.
- Only the employer's search words are sent to the AI, which turns them into filters (roles, industries, locations, certificates).
- Your profile is not sent to the AI for search. Workers are matched and ordered by fixed rules on the CertVault server: desired role (up to 40 points), industry (20), location (15), certificate names on file (20) and availability (5).
- Only workers in the open pool who are looking for work and active in the last 30 days appear. Private workers never appear in search.
- The CV score is not part of the search ranking.
7. How long it is kept
The score and breakdown are kept on your profile while you have an account and are updated whenever you change your documents or CV. They are deleted with your account. Challenges are kept with your account so we can show what was reviewed and why.
