OGUK vs OEUK medical: what actually changed
Nothing clinical.OGUK and OEUK are the same UK offshore trade body before and after its February 2022 rebrand, and the OGUK medical and OEUK medical are the same fitness-to-work certificate. This page exists because job adverts, recruiters and training providers still use both names interchangeably, and workers keep asking whether they hold the “right” one.

Is OGUK the same as OEUK?
Yes. OGUK is the old name of the trade body now called OEUK, Offshore Energies UK. The OGUK medical and the OEUK medical are one and the same offshore fitness-to-work certificate: same examination, same guidelines, same register of approved doctors, same up-to-two-year validity. Only the name changed.
Is an OGUK medical certificate still valid?
Yes. A certificate issued under the OGUK name stays valid until the expiry date printed on it. Nothing was voided or re-issued when the body rebranded in February 2022. When it expires you renew as normal with an OEUK-registered doctor and the replacement will simply carry the OEUK name.
Why did OGUK become OEUK?
Oil & Gas UK rebranded as Offshore Energies UK in February 2022 because its members now span offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture as well as oil and gas. The medical scheme, the doctor register and the guidance documents were renamed with it, but the clinical standard itself was not altered.
What changed — and what didn't
Three things changed: the name of the organisation, the name printed on new certificates, and the branding on the doctor register and guidance documents. Everything a worker or employer actually relies on — the examination, who can perform it, how long it lasts and where it is accepted — carried over untouched.

Older OGUK certificates: valid until they expire
A certificate that says OGUK Medical on it is not out of date because of the rename. It remains valid until the expiry date the examining doctor wrote on it, which is at most two years from the examination. Nobody was asked to re-sit a medical or obtain a re-issued certificate when the branding changed.
In practice the last certificates issued under the OGUK name were written in early 2022, so by now almost every worker has renewed at least once and holds an OEUK-branded certificate. If you still have an OGUK-branded one, check its expiry date — the name is fine, but two years have almost certainly passed.
⚠ The thing that actually catches workers out
It is never the name on the certificate. It is the expiry date. An OEUK medical runs for up to two years, shorter than BOSIET or MIST, so it is the UKCS credential most likely to lapse between rotations. CertVault alerts you 60 days before it is due.
CVs, job adverts and ATS keyword filters
Recruiters and applicant-tracking systems still search for both spellings. Plenty of UK offshore job adverts written in 2026 still ask for an “OGUK medical” out of habit, and a worker who lists only “OEUK” can be filtered out by a keyword search for the old name.
The safe format on a CV or profile is to write both, with the validity date: OEUK (OGUK) Medical – valid to Mar 2027. That satisfies a human reader, a keyword filter searching either term, and an employer checking currency at a glance.
If you are writing the job advert: an in-date certificate under either name meets the requirement. Asking for “OEUK / OGUK medical” keeps the advert searchable for workers who still think of it by the old name.
